Driving in the Village of Sakkarah

This is the only paved road in Sakkarah that I saw, and it's the through street to commute to Maadi or Cairo. It's a great video because it shows the huge variety of modes of transportation: donkey-back, donkey-drawn cart, horse-back, horsedrawn cart, motorcycles, tuk tuk (3 wheeled motorcycles named after the putting sound they reputedly make), cars, trucks, walking, and finally...camels. Stick with it to see the camels at the end and note the herd of goats at the beginning. The camels were my favorite part of the whole trip. They are enormous and amazing animals.

View from the rooftop of Helene and Moustafa's home: date palms, the desert in the background, you can almost see the Old Step Pyramid of King Zoser through the trees. It's a great place for rooftop camping as a base of operations for touring the village of Sakkarah, horse-back rides, camel rides in the desert, visiting the Memphis museum, the Papyrus factory, the old Step Pyramid, the Red Pyramid and the Bent Pyramid and a drive to the pyramids in Giza.
